Murroe is delighted to play host this week to the pitch and putt events for the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games.
From Thursday June 10th until Saturday June 12th, the pitch and putt competition will take place at Glenside Pitch and Putt course.
It is a great honour for the village to host this event, with the Ryans of Glenside deserving special tribute for all the work they have done to make this an exciting occasion for everyone.
Thirty golfers from all over Ireland will be able to take advantage of the pristine greens. Over a hundred local volunteers have given their services in preparation for, and during the events. Thousands of spectators are expected to arrive into the village over the three days.
Fifth and Sixth class pupils in Murroe National School will give the athletes a guard of honour on Thursday June 10th.
Competitions will take place at Glenside Pitch and Putt from 09.00 to 15.00 each day from Thursday June 10th to Saturday June 12th.
The participants will do a lap of honour during the final ceremony on Saturday at 3pm June 12th, with the local scouts carrying a flag of honour. Murroe’s award-winning choir will give a performance. Presentations will be given by Paudie McNamara, Therese Conroy, our Mary of Murroe, and Peter Clohessy.
The Community Council has given over the Muintir na Tire Hall as a hub for participants and their families. Local people are encouraged to come and meet and greet the families there, and make them welcome.
Best of luck to all the participants, and we look forward to an exciting few days!
