Abington Church will host the following historical/literary event on Saturday June 25th next:
Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu: The Abington Connection.
Le Fanu was a leading writer of the nineteenth-century gothic literature. His father was the Rector of Abington from 1825 -1845 and the family lived at Abington Rectory during the turbelent era of the Tithe Wars.
The schedule of events is as follows:
An introductory talk by David McBurnie and Grainne Keays focusing on the influence of his Abington experiences on Le Fanu’s work. The talk will begin at the Church at 2pm sharp and will be followed by a visit to Abington Rectory st 2.45pm by kind permission of the present owner and a visit to the ravine at Glenstal at 3.30pm.
The day will round off with refreshments at Glenstal Abbey at 5.00 Euro per person.
